CR-V is cheapest compact 4WD to own

The Honda CR-V is the cheapest compact 4WD to run, according to a survey released by the NRMA.

The survey examined the running costs of 46 cars and found that the Honda CR-V costs $153.77 per week to run – $10 a week less than its nearest rival in the 4WD compact segment.

The NRMA’s motoring experts looked at factors such as depreciation, registration, insurance, servicing and repairs to calculate the true running costs of car ownership.

“The CR-V delivers fantastic value for money,” said Honda Australia director Lindsay Smalley.

“Not only is it a great buy, it will cost owners less to keep it on the road. It is an ideal vehicle for families with its large interior space, good fuel economy and plenty of features.”

The current CR-V range was launched in 2002 and begins from $31,990.

Powered by a 2.4-litre i-VTEC four cylinder engine, the range features Honda’s real-time 4WD system and a choice of five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmissions. The CR-V is packed with safety features such as ABS brakes, front driver and passenger airbags and crumple-zones. An anti-theft immobiliser is standard on the CR-V range.
