Against tough competition, Nissan’s GU Patrol was picked for the best Family Wagon award ahead of 12 other competitors - including the Toyota 100 Series LandCruiser, Mitsubishi Pajero and Land Rover Discovery.

The GU Patrol Coil Cab was selected from a field of nine competitors - including the Toyota 78 Series LandCruiser, Mitsubishi Triton and Holden Rodeo.

In awarding the GU Patrol wagon and GU Patrol Coil Cab Chassis the judges were full of praise for the duo.

Patrol wagon’s new 3.0-litre DOHC direct injection intercooled turbo-diesel engine was praised, while the spacious and rugged design of Patrol also impressed the judges.

"Matched to the auto, the 3.0-litre Patrol is a brilliant performer and very easy to drive. It has the strength to cope with a number of children, tow easily and still have space for luggage," said one 4X4 Australia judge.

According to 4X4 Australia’s editor, Ron Moon, "The 3.0-litre turbo Patrol is not only a big, capable 4WD wagon - it’s also economical and well priced".

The practical Patrol Coil Cab Chassis also got its fair share of compliments from the judges, who liked its combination of comfort and driveability.

"The coil cab Patrol is a very capable and tough 4WD ute that not only has the power and performance you need, but also the comfortable ride you desire," said Mr Moon.

Adding to the Patrol’s success were the latest VFACT figures highlighting its popularity in the All Terrain Wagon segment, with total sales for February of 752 units, again outselling the Landcruiser 100-series.
