I've owned and driven many of them including VY SS ute. The only Holden I've driven that was a superior car to drive than my V2 CV8 was a VF SV6 sedan. In terms of drive was streets ahead of all the others. Practicality (size), sure way too big. But fantastic compared to anything prior.

Your vision is not as good in the VE-F as well in the ute and the sedan and that's why my wife bought the Aurion I wanted her the get the new Falcon but she thought it to big and could not see out of it as well as the Aurion.
I liked the last Falcon 6cyl over the Commodore V6 any day, it's the V8's that makes the Commodore.

I found that the VF SS was crap at over 200KM/H but that was mainly just the crap shocks they come with, it was like a big lump of lard, it was no fun at all to drive, but I could hammer that VY SS ute as hard as and it was a joy to drive, I put a strut bar on it and that was like magic how it made steering so much more precise, it was fantastic where as before that you were fighting the wheel making you apprehensive pushing hard in each fast corner over 170KM/H say and that flogs you out on a long drive. the rear end of the VY SS ute had a twitch in some corers but with the bike in the back it was never a problem, if I did not use it for work I would of lowered it a inch in the rear with progressive rate springs the front height is spot on and any lower is just crap, it sat like a rock on the road at 260KM/H so why lower it and you have the ability to soak up bad roads much better than if you lower it, turning it into a shit box that bottoms out that much that it drives you mad, so where is the joy, it does that at times standard height as well but only now and then, but you know it's going to before you hit it.

I would of bought a VE ute but hatted them and got the VF only because I had to and at least the interior up grade was much better than that Daewoow rubber totally cheap looking crap, but got rid of it when I became an Emeritus and I can't ride a dirt bike anymore worth anything like I once did as I don't have the fitness or strength to attempt them big hills or to ride anything more them 3 HR or I am flat out walking to the bar after wards with knee moan-ya.

Castellan. I reckon you may not have worry about struggling to walk to the bar if your driving at 260 ks on a public road and get nabbed, your next walk will probably to the gallows or if the judge is lenient to your prison cell

The Aftermarket Association (AAAA) has tried to get a breakdown of vehicles for its members but earlier census statistics didn't record as much information then as is available today. With the advent of VIN numbers it is a lot easier to breakdown the market and give members a better indication of the car park with specific information becoming available. Capturing it from all the data and translating it into a readable format takes time and today it can even supply it in Postcode zones.
Data provided in this report was gained and aggregated from various sources including IBIS World Data, Deloitte Motor Industry Services, ABS Data, Motor Vehicle Census, VFacts, Citibank and other sources.

It's not a problem I have a home in Darwin and 260KM/H is not that bad when you are use to it, it's not like it's a HQ Holden with drum brakes all round but with 4 wheel disc and uprated pads it does not take much to wipe away speed, I had a road bike that cruising at 240KM/H was nothing at all, just a touch of the brake from 240 to 100 is just nothing at all to do.
But this is the problem with amateurs they presume they know what they are on about but they don't have a clue. many people drive at 250KM/H in Germany with no problems and no one over there thinks anything of it, but here in Aus people go mental about such things and it's only because they are ignorant.
Sure you don't try such things if you don't know the road well or are not experienced trying hard beyond your limitations.
Riding, racing a dirt bike and going for it takes a lot of skill in the bush, you may only get to 140KM/H at the most but it takes more knowledge and skill than it does to drive at 260KM/H on the road.

Well or someone who lives in NSW and is limited to 110km/h limit (not 110km/h indicated which has been around 100km/h for the last 10 years) and around town the VF is hands down the best GMH/Holden product I ever drove. Not counting HSV stuff as they are made to drive, just the run of the mill "Holden". I loved my V2 CV8 to drive and until the VF I hadn't driven a better Holden. I had driven G6E BF's that were as nice, but didn't have the LS1's go. I'm still yet to find a car that I could drive for as long as the V2, with that car you'd drive until you had to put fuel in and get out feeling great. If I do the same with my 2011 SR5 Hilux or Lexus RX350 you get out stiff as a board, not as much with the Lexus though. For this exact reason I bought some seats out of a wrecked V2 CV8 that was written off when it was 15,000kM old, for fitment into one of my HK's.

Castellan. My comment was not a judge of the handling and braking of your car nor your driving skills, but an observation that to be travelling at 265 km/hr (a number of times faster than maximum speed limit on most Australian roads) would end you up in some large amount of legal trouble if caught. In saying that and noting your comment that you drive on roads in the N.T. I wonder if 265km/hr is now still twice the open/maximum speed limit in the N.T., or has it been altered again?
Getting back to the original topic if anyone does have the numbers of old Holdens currently registered on Australian roads and it is pre December 2016 you can add one more for my car, registered in December 2017 after a 38 year absence.

Yes well that's the point, a drivers car ? regardless of the law.
I had a 928 Porsche and boy was that a real drivers car, it entices you to drive the car hard and fast and you can do it for long distance with out feeling buggered, the same can be said of some road bikes not to mention dirt bikes, because you are not struggling with the bike, she works with you ? you feel comfortable in doing it, now I have once driven a Datsun Homer and my arse was not touching the seat at times and I was flat to the boards at 100KM/H and on the edge of being out control, driving beyond limitations of sanity, but I was with in the limits of the Law.
Once one comprehends the workings of what geometry has to offer a whole new world is at your door, just look at the rear suspension of a 928 Porsche and then go look at the rubbish that the VF Commodore or last Falcons have, the Penny drops.
I use to ride 500KM to see a girl friend and old mates in the 90's on a Kawasaki ZX10 I would cruise up their Friday after work directly but 240KM/H was the normal easy comfortable speed to get their and jump off feeling great and start drinking, like the trip was nothing, but to sit on the speed limit all that way that was a real pain, my arse would get sore and it was boring as dog shit.
I road a old Z900 for 100km and I was buggered, the difference in one thing to another can be just amazing.
Look at the old HK 327 GTS HT-G GTS 350 Monaro's what great cars they were in there day, but a V8 Commodore Monaro is a much better car over all, but them old Monaro's have there points as well that we admire about them.

As to old cars there is sites that do have a register of Valiant's showing Pacers and Chargers that one can look up and add there car to the list and there is a register of XA GT Falcons and another of XB GT Falcons that I know of.
I don't know of a Holden register.

Regarding the issue of how many of each model are left, I cant see why the registration bodies don't make this information available. At the end of the day, it is only enthusiasts that are likely to want to know and what harm does it do to let us know? In the UK, the DVLA will tell you how many of each make and model are still registered as rood going as well as how any are registered with them as in existence but not currently being used on the road. Why would you withhold this harmless historical information?

As advised in other replies and questions regarding numbers. The fact is that the information you seek is not available. Our Bureau of Census & Statistics never considered it important data to collect years ago when they had the opportunity. The RAC clubs and Insurance companies all have their data, providing a car is registered with them. To collect and collate that data is of interest to enthusiasts but not the people that own it.
Today it is different as the VIN number information can be used to provide not only the models and numbers of ALL cars but can drill down into postcodes. Unfortunately you have to spend a lot of effort in breaking down the reports into a readable format.
The lists you say are for Valliant's etc. rely on people that are aware of them and are prepared to provide the information, again it comes down to the reality that a lot wouldn't bother.
In the UK and maybe NZ where you have a smaller country it is possible vehicle location is easier, but the size of Australia prohibits vehicle sightings and recording. Even in NZ they still have Barn Finds so it shows that vehicles can be hidden away and allow incorrect records.
Even the car companies only recorded the number of a particular series produced without going into the specific model breakdown.
