KNK777 has quietly been for sale for some time. I know roughly the sellers expectation, so it will be interesting to see where it goes.

Unlike some of the other cars around, the provenance of that car is fairly solid. It is ex-HDT, but doesn't have the magic "Bathurst" word associated with it.
I won't hazard a guess but it should, in theory, easily eclipse the previous HT81837 sale prices.

I bought a tatts ticket today so maybe. Not to cause an argument but is that the correct placement for the radiator/alternator warning label? I've not seen one there before.

23D from 1968 is still around. 13D still exists but no-one seen for many years. "Parts" of the Brock and Bond HT's are around still. Pretty sure a couple of the other Privateer cars still exist. There were a fair few more cars raced in the day not at Bathurst that will still be around, many that we don't know actually raced.

The two Beechey Monaros are still alive too.

They keep calling the very first HT 350 built by Harry Firth. Are they sure he did not build one of the other HTs first?

The two NSW HK 307 manual Monaro rally cars may still be around too. There was a HK Monaro on up in Townsville on Ebay in the last two weeks that looked like a 307 4spd, it was 285-H5 and my guess is it was one of those two. The other wasn't far off in Pagewood Monaro build number either. There would be lucky to be many other V8 manual HK Monaros from Pagewood if any. Here is the link to the completed auction, would be interesting to know its chassis number if anyone knows who bought it:

On the topic of the HT for sale at Lloyds, how much is original based on the damage it sustained? Still the same shell, anyone know a more complete backstory of its rebuild, ie was it rebuilt immediately for racing or sold off as wreck after crash? I've never seen anything written on it before

Repairing the damage sustained during the Sandown 300 involved the replacement of the 2 rear quarter panels, the rear beaver panel, the boot and the front guards as well as patching the Fuel tank that was damaged when the Monaro hit the Armco.

Warren, I may be wrong on this point, but my understanding was that the HTs were all but ready when Harry joined GM-H after leaving Ford. So he didn't actually build this car at all.

I've had several conversations with Harry & others on this point, but I believe that the cars & the drivers (Spencer Martin & Kevin Bartlett) were already organised by GM-H themselves & then set up the HDT thing for Harry to operate at arms length. Prior to Harry arriving I believe that the GM-H service garage at Fishermans Bend is where they were prepared, This is where the London to Sydney Marathon Monaros were built also.

Most of Harry's work was post-Sandown to get the cars right, the engines sorted, the various mods required homologated & the new driver line-up organised.

I'm not sure how many HDT Monaros actually entered at the 1969 Sandown, but the Wikipedia page only lists one. :- https://en.wikipedia.org...i/1969_Datsun_Three_Hour

There were 3 HK Marathon Monaros, I've been trying to track these down for years.

I do know were one ended up & it's now in heaven, the other 2 are yet to be found (by me anyway).

These were very interesting cars too. They were built in August/September 1968 & they had the then brand new 350/TH400 combination fitted. They also had fully ducted air conditioning.

The fuel tank was 54 gallons (246 litre) which had 3 fillers, one on each guard & one in the centre of the panel between the rear screen & the boot lid.

My father was a good mate of Doug Chivas (who drove one) & I had a good look over them back then.

I also question a lot what is said about the car by Lloyds. What is said about the rings in the car may well be true but it sounds like the story about the production engines Repco rebuilt for GMH that got water damaged on the way over here. The engines used at Bathurst were the specially prepared L48 engines from the Flint engine plant sporting the Flint engine plant fuelie heads (186 cast), at least that was what the cars were first registered with.

I think that the Sandown car had the Flint engine & the 3 Bathurst cars had Harry prepared engines. I think Ian Tate could back that up. Neither Harry or Ian spoke very highly of the US built engines.

These cars would've been registered first with the Flint engines & then Harry & Ian etc. would've fitted their Bathurst engines once they were on the road.

At least one of the Bathurst cars had a Flint engine, otherwise what was the point of the parts catalogue update to include the Flint 186 fuelie heads? My guess is the Bond and West cars had Flint engines and the Woelders car had a Tonawanda engine built by Ian Tate. I do remember hearing that they had the 3 x Flint engines at their disposal plus from memory the 4 x production engines. GMH destroyed one Flint engine on the dyno, and Harry had at least one built which may have ben in the Woelders car at Bathurst. Will have to see what some sleuths here can come up with!

a bit of a side topic to this saga but if what is said about the events of the day is accurate does Spencer Martin qualify for the fastest handbrakie ever recorded. don't think to many of us would try one at around 80mph and live to tell the tale.
