Interested in opinions on the finish on air cleaners to be specific the HQ guys are telling me satin which makes sense as everything else in bay is satin but other saying gloss for air cleaner and oil cap ( where applicable) and some saying in between gloss and black not sure what that is exactly but I'm leaning more towards satin

Well.... HQ air cleaners all look matt or satin now , but maybe they were a nice Gloss black when new ? Dad had an HQ new and I can remember looking at that big black air cleaner ( it was a 253) and it was so shiny and new ....Gloss ??? Mark .

I have a lot of used ones from HQ-VK in the shed. Will look. I know they painted the whole engine bay in gloss clear acrylic starting very late HQ, so that may have made them look glossier when new?

I agree with justgm, when I thought of mine it looks matt, but a bit of spit and its pretty glossy under the grime

when I wiped out the inside of the air cleaner at filter changes it was bright black but I wouldn't quite call it gloss. Maybe years of wiping it clean made matt appear almost a semi gloss?

HQ had more of a gloss finish then the earlier 253/308 HT/G air cleaners.

Spoke with a guy I know who states he has documentation from GMH that the air cleaner and oil cap were gloss black they were actually the shiniest part of the car in regards to black used, I think its true as stated by some above over time gloss has slightly diminished and some people believe that finish to be more of a satin, thanks for the input
