Could someone please help me understand the colour codes on my ID tag.

I have a HR panel Van, Body No. HR2104-9160-A
Based on my research so far I am assuming the:
"2104" is Panel Van,
"9160" is the number of vehicle made,
"A" is Adelaide Plant.

I am confused with;
Trim Code 914-E73:
"914" ???
"E73" ???

Paint Code 585-0091:
"585" Solid Colour ??
"0091" ??? (I assume this would be the colour)

Your help will be appreciated.

The TRIM number on Holden body plates often causes confusion because it contains info about both interior & exterior colour codes.

914 is GM-H code for the exterior paint finish, which in this case is Timber Green a fleet order colour.

E73 is the code for the interior trim which for this car is Mephisto Red.

585-0091 is the Dulux paint code. 585 is the paint line number (or paint type) which in this case is a solid colour.

0091 is the Dulux mixing code for Timber Green.

The body number (9160) is actually the number of HR Panel Vans built in Adelaide, not all HR vehicles.

Thanks Dr Terry for such a quick response.
Very much appreciated.

I looked everywhere for the Paint Code 0091 and could not find it any where.

The P/V I have has been unregistered for 8yrs, so no rego papers came with the car.
I tried to do a revs check on it and nothing came up,

I know you have already assisted me and thanks for that, how do I find out what year it would be and can i get any info from the R.M.S

Cheers
John

There are several things on HRs that will give an indication of its production date. Your not likely to get anything useful from the RMS.

Firstly if it has factory seatbelts, padded sun-visors & factory windscreen washers it will be post 1st Sept 1966.

Also there are many things on the car which have stamped or cast build dates. Easiest to see are the one stamped on the steering box, or the casting dates on the engine block, head & inlet manifold, assuming your engine is the original. Both the starter motor & alternator have stamped dates, again only meaningful if they are the original items. Speedo & instruments also have date stamps & these will more likely be originals.

Check out the PSN plate and the two letters at the end of the chassis number. These will tell you where it was assembled. Could be Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth or even Brisbane.

Thanks for the reply,

I'm not sure what the PSN is,
Would this be the plate screwed on the fire wall??

Yes, that is it. Pagewood (Sydney) assembled. Chassis number will end in AS.

Just to clarify what HK1837 has posted. Your HR van's body was built (i.e. welded together etc.) in the Elizabeth (Adelaide) plant, then transported to Pagewood (Sydney) for final assembly.

As Dr Terry says. With some exceptions most plants assembled vans from Elizabeth bodies. Elizabeth built the bodies, painted and hard trimmed them and then they went by train to the other plants and were assembled into vehicles.
