You cannot pick a HJ Sandman from this timeframe from the ID tags, it is simply impossible. Two identical vans could exist with consecutive numbers in the same colour/trim, one a Sandman and the other a Holden van and the plates would read the same other than the consecutive numbers.

Tyre placard won't help either as the tyres are the same.

My guess is it is a Sandman as it was completed on 30th June and warranty commenced in October meaning about 97% sure it is a stock order car, and it is unlikely that GMH would stock order an Absinth Yellow with black trim HJ Holden van optioned with 4.2L and 4spd - that combination would most likely be a retail order. However they certainly would have stock ordered a HJ Holden Sandman van in 1886-19V optioned with 4.2L V8 and 4spd.

Note that apart from the black paintouts and black painted grille & headlight surrounds everything on a HJ Sandman was optional on a HJ Holden van except for: guards, steering wheel and console. As the guards and steering wheel are easily changed over the past near 40 years the only unique thing identifiable on the body are the console mounts - a HJ Holden van will be floor shift 4spd whereas a HJ Sandman van was console shift. If the van still has original red lead factory electrostatic primer inside you'll see immediately if the brackets are original.

Note that the full length headlining is very rare in HJ outside of Sandman, and would only normally be found on retail order HJ Holden vans as GMH would generally not have fitted it to a stock order vehicle. So if it has factory full length headlining equipment it'll most likely be a Sandman.

If this car is claimed to have its original engine number and it isn't QR649712 then it isn't its original engine.

Thanks for the advice. I'll be checking out the brackets and the roof lining. I tried to send you a PM before posting this but your mailbox is full. I really appreciate your reply.

Regards,

Craig
