I think that the ADR27A 202 manual is due to taking off the line somewhat, maybe the Auto Cam is a little lacking in torque for Holden's want.
We see the same Cam pop up in the 173 Torana by the looks of it and he 173 auto gets the same as 202 auto.

I think I would go with the auto engines Cam in a Manual back in the day if one could do so.

When you drive a 202 auto you will see the rev jump up directly off the line, but a manual will need more low torque to get off the line, I had a HQ 202 manual and mum had a HJ 202 auto, the HJ 202 auto jumped off the line very well but gutless as from their on, the HQ 202 manual had much more performance over the auto 202 crap.

But I found that the 253 auto to be a great combo even with a 2,78 diff ratio and the manual 253 never came across as much better than the auto in performance overall really to be bothered about it.

Yes, auto would get torque multiplication through the converter but would also have a taller rear axle than most manual 6cyl.

As I said I had a 202 with the ADR27A carby, trimatic and 3.08 rear axle in a WB tonner. Its camshaft was purchased originally as a cam slightly bigger than a 186 XU1, and that went car was fine. Revved out nicely, had decent low down torque, used to tow well. It had a 2.25" exhaust, extractors and the yella terra head to make it breathe better than any stock 202 but it all worked well together. When I originally built that car I had an M20 in it with the 3.55 rear axle and as you can imagine it wasn't great at highway speeds. I changed it to a 3.08 rear and then it was awful, that was when I put the Trimatic in it.
