G’day fellow enthusiasts. I’m looking for some ideas or help maybe. Most of my life I’ve, like a lot of you here it seems, have been keenly interested in many things motoring and mechanically related things. In 1979 I was fortunate enough to buy and still own Sydney built # 161 a Type 1 Yellow and Buckskin Beige 327. All very good you might say. Some of you on here know or know of this car. Because of some health concerns though in 1992 I couldn’t continue driving it. Not knowing what to do with it I drove it into the shed. About 15 or so years ago I started to dismantle it with the idea to restore. The body was taken to a local Classic Restoration place for body work and paint the little amount of rust there was was repaired or replaced and the undercoat done. Due to some money issues the paint never got finished paint and it came back home yet to be painted. Over the years many spare parts have been collected ie spare of Monaro doors, 6” wheels.etc, plus some not so easy to find Nos parts i.e Dash bezels, arch moulds, reverse gear lock out, heater tap. eye brow moulds. etc. Many parts have been restored or reconditioned I.e big nut m/c, brake booster, arch moulds. Many of the bolt, nuts and washers have been plated in correct colours as well as the hinges and the like. A lot of the parts are in zip bags marked for identification. Most of the black diff, rear suspension parts have been repainted. Engine & gearbox still bolted together as they were lifted out of the car years ago, interior trim near complete in exc. con.
I.D body tags, owners maintenance hand book, copy of my purchase receipt, other sales receipts, history while I have owned it plus digital photos of the cars build dates, cast #, cast dates etc for identification and assembly guides. Sounds like a lot maybe, but it’s all here.
Due to some health and financial issues it looks very much like, as painful as it will be, as it will have to be sold.
The Question is: How do I value it to even begin. As one package a 1837 Monaro or as a Monaro body with tags and the drivetrain separate and spares etc as separate lots ? I would hate to think it never got back on the road as a Bathurst Monaro. But. Any thoughts out there. I’m searching for some ideas.

Sorry to hear of your circumstances. Obviously a very desirable car once completed. One thing for sure do not break it up and sell off bits and pieces (not sure if this is what you meant), but don't do that. Worth the most as a complete package with all the original bits and spares.


Not sure on value, I guess a buyer is going to be judging the price against what it would be worth finished LESS the cost of all the work that needs to be done and probably LESS a (maybe big) margin for the trouble and unknowns involved in a rebuild of everything.

It may fetch more in bits but is it worth the hassle?

If the tags match the body and the original block is there it is possibly a $100k car condition dependant but until you offer it for sale I guess you never know!

G’day, yeh. they all match. Exactly as in the I.D Handbook. There is no doubt. There are also many pics of assembly #, cast #, date stamps, you will find on the car that indicate it’s build date. Except the likes of spark plugs, air filters, oil filter etc. there is nothing about this car that is not genuine or authentic. Unless it was to replace a part that had been damaged, even then it would have been a genuine replacement part. The simple reason I was not able to complete the restoration is some health and financial issues have come up and I’m pushed into the position where I have to sell it. For Anyone who has any idea or understanding of what an Authentic 1837 is, could easily verify this as the real deal. It’s A near complete car. What you would find on any genuine Type one 1837, you can be near certain that it is here with this one. The body is in extremely good shape that was up to painting stage. I drove it into the shed before beginning to dismantle it. Most mechanicals are in excellent condition, if it did happen to be worn or unserviceable there is every chance there is a better one to here to replace it or the likes of the Brake Master Cylinder that had the replacement one fitted, I did managed to find a correct big nut one and had it recon. The 18x, Buckskin Beige Interior is near complete and excellent condition. Woodgrain dash and console, Steering Wheel, Stainless Steel Trim complete and ex. condition. A local Canberra Car, T1 Monaro GTS 327 in Warrick Yellow, Buckskin Beige, delete option of the black stripe on the boot and bonnet. Partly dismantled and partly restored. With the books and history to Verify it all. That I bought off the original owner almost 40 years ago that may be soon up for sale. Anyone seriously interested are welcome to see and talk about it

Is it completely stripped down or is it still rolling?
Guards, doors, bonnet, boot lid or interior still in place?
How much of the original paint is still there or is the whole thing in primer now?

Its a lot harder to sell a car when its completely stripped down and was probably worth twice as much before you touched it, but you dont need me to tell you that.
Cant really give you any idea without photos Flem

How or where are you planning to sell it?
eBay would be a nightmare

Hi Wayne, pretty much a rolling shell. The front x member, diff and front subframe and steering on it now are off another HK fitted as temporary arrangement while originals were being worked on. The diff and rear suspension and a lot of the other black components from around the car were painted black. The front subframe was ready for paint, x member and suspension were blasted ready paint. The body was undercoated. Of course that’s going to have to get redone because it was never finished and sealed. The stainless steel exterior trim is all pretty straight but in need of polishing. Motor and gearbox still bolted together with just one of the heads off. Dash, consol steering wheel woodgrain are in lovely condition and probably wouldn’t need much attention at all.
