Is this the WB sedan which is in on display in National Motoring Museum, Birdwood SA?

I was going suggest VNs, but I believe WB Statesman?

I believe it to be 1980 WB Statesman, the first Ford to have that was a 1973 LTD.

Excellent trivia question. Was it Caprice only or Deville too?

Is it true that the early HQ with factory air-con had no glove box because that room was taken up by the setup ?

Is it true that the first HQ statesman's had chrome bottom of the seats side like the HK-T-G did and then changed to plastic in the series 2 HQ with orange blinkers.

I believe it was both Deville & Caprice, Except for the bench option (obviously).

No, the HQ factory A/C remained basically the same throughout the HQ's model life.

Having said that there was a Nasco dealer-fitted kit where the evaporator took up the entire glovebox (including lid). The existing heater/demister remained unaltered.

It was essentially an aftermarket underdash style unit, just relocated to the glovebox because the lower edge of the dash was too close to the floor.

It wasn't just 71/72 HQ Statesmans which had the chrome recliners, it was any 71/72 HQ with reclining buckets.

What is the better car HQ Statesman De Vill or ZF Fairlane 500 back in the day.
I was looking at the advancement of the ZF Fairlane surpassing the imported 1972 LTD at the time, as the ZF was the first Aussie Ford with power windows option and the LTD Galaxie does not. so we were really moving forward by 1972.

Holden first had P/W in the HK, but not in any of our GMH Impala or Pontiac. so imagine that having a Sep 1968 HK Brougham, saying yow dowg lookie here P/W. real rad back then.

The biggest let down with the ZF Fairlane is the leaf sprung rear end and the 302 only had a 2bbl carby on it and the 351 only has a 2bbl as well.

Apart from the way it handled I don’t think Ford had a car to compete with a HQ Deville optioned with a 350. And you could have a bench seat with column auto if you liked, integrated A/C if you wanted and power windows if you wanted. I think the Fords got more appealing later in the 70’s. I remember by Uncle had a white HQ 350 Deville, he traded it early 80’s and bought a 351 LTD. I asked him why it and not a WB? He said the decision was based solely upon the engine. Prior to the HQ he had my Grandfather’s ZC 351 Fairlane that he got after old Fred died.

You could get a bench seat in the ZF Fairlane and the 1971-2 LTD Galaxie was a front bench seat that was 2 in one adj.

1980 on LTD 5.8L would be a disappointment, the WB Caprice with the optional 3.08 diff would be the way to go.

My dads 1971 LTD Galaxie handled real well she had Koni adj shocks, she would dip the front end about like in high speed highway corners say at 90mph and up and light steering took getting used to. but I fanged that about on dirt roads full on, sure the weight had to be taken into account but big broad slides and hanging the tail out were fine to control, the HQ Holden's understeered way more so.
My brothers 1974 LTD was shocking thing to drive flat out on the highway over 180KM/H as the rear end just tosses you off line and you have to use up both lanes, if anyone is coming the other way your gone. same with a ZC 351 Fairlane I was going to buy, I thought yep I will snap this up, but I must of been white as a ghost when I came back, I still remember that feeling clearly.
Note to myself do not drive Fairlane's LTD's with leaf springs they are not for me. even tho I love the ZH Farilane's, I would of had to really tame my driving style if I owned them, so back in the days I would of had to buy a Holden Statesman over the all the other lux cars.

Max HP figures are one thing but any serious person needs a graph to understand what's going on, look at a HT GTS 350 4speed and drive that and then drive a VX SS 5.7L and you will see a huge difference in how the power comes on, the Old HT has massive grunt down low that a VX 5.7L does not have at all, you have to wait for 4000RPM to come on until the 5.7L even comes alive and it has nothing on a HT 350 until then.
So even if the VX SS did have the same max HP as the HT GTS350 one would not have a clue by reading the max HP as to what is truly what, they are both totally different in how they perform.
.............

Indeed!
I used to tell my mates that a HT GTS 350 manual ( as in the case of the one I had)
could go from idle to 130 mph .... without changing gears. Drool

And it would do simply do that. Get it rolling in 1st then snick it into 4th
and take foot off accelerator .. until revs dropped back to idle.
Then simply slowly push the pedal down ... and off it would go!
yes, chug chug a bit down low but it would continue up to over
6,000 rpm and not a gear change in sight.

In contrast, my VX SSII manual was not happy in top under 1,200 rpm
and would start shaking the whole drivetrain at 1,000. Totally different

If only the Munro had the SS gearbox and brakes ....Dancing

Yes one may think of a car and question why it is that we can love such a thing.
I talking to an old mate about all of his cars and he snapped back that P of S with some of them directly, he is not really into cars like me but regardless people do has a soft spot for cars regardless I have found even my mum has.

That mate had a photo of my HG Premier and he went and got it and said that was the car that he liked the best out of all my cars. maybe it was that his dad had a HT Premier but only a 186 and mine a 253 V8 with air, or maybe the colour.

Things that I was blown away with is how in my VY SS sat on the road at 210 to 260km/h quiet no wind noise driving ya up the wall or floating about on the road, could drive that flat to the boards from Brissy to Cains or whatever and just love it, just sit back with crus control on at 210 in 5th taking it easy. that's what it's all about, look what this can do. I am amazed ! that's what it's all about !

But the old cars have their charm like you say Yoda. you could get some young bloke that has owned a VE SS etc but never driven a stock HT GTS 350, but if they did, they would say f me dead ! the f ing torque ! the exhaust note when you drive it and when you sit in it driving it looking out the sides, I f ing love that no pillar and that shape it's f ing classic !

Hang on I have been drinking they say with this covid 19 you are best to keep your fluids up and don't get a dry mouth or else, I have been drinking one bourbon one Rum and one Beer. you know how the song goes.

Yes my HQ Holden accessories book that I got with my Kingswood does not have the air-con shown in it, I have never seen one like that hooked up to the dash like that.

Old Ray Tailor had something like that on his 1971 LTD Galaxie but he made it custom fit himself, he made parts for Rare Spares and if you wanted to make anything he could do it, you name it Bonnet doors guards anything.

Q11. What GMH Australian delivered vehicles will you find M41 on the BODY ID plate where the car is really fitted with an M38 (TH350)? I believe there is 5 of them.

I thought that all late VB Commodore 5.0 autos had M38 boxes but were stamped M41. This was remedied at VC release.
