Got the so4 in today. Whata pain in da bottom. Fiddly and took ages but got there eventually.

The hook at the end of the clutch fork got stuck in the steering linkage and i couldnt get it out. I turned the s/wheel to try and pop it out and it snapped the hook off. Pissweak! It looks like pretty crappy metal so prob cant be welded but has anyone ever repaired one? Thinking of bolting a metal piece to it or something. Worth it or just get it replaced...?

According to my non genuine workshop manual the hook is part of the clutch fork.

Yours wouldn't happen to be two metal fingers bent into a pair of hooks attached to a rubber insulator would they?

If so I have repaired mine by welding washers to the side of the hooks to reinforce them after welding the cracks and filing the weld back so that the cable still fits (on my Ford)

Cheers Jim. nah its a one piece metal fork.

Do i have to take the whole box out to change the fork?

Also the guy who checked it all out for me is an engine builder. He found no crank float and the lobes looked good. We didnt look at the heads but it looks to be good to go. When we put the box back on he didnt have his aligning tool. he just did it by eye. Should i be a little nervous about that or is it not a problem..?? Cheers.

Pretty common question, actually of course it doesn't matter. The alignment tool is only used so you can install the box. If the box goes in ok then any "alignment" will be automatically reset as soon as you operate the clutch for the first time. The alignment tool just centres the clutch plate with the spigot bush, when you operate the clutch the clutch plate is no longer clamped to the flywheel so will float into the central position.
