I have been stripping my chassis for my pano restoration and have discovered this morning the old girl has had a knock on the passenger side front. The repair looks pretty average and i've just wire brushed about half akilo of bog out of the chassis rail. Its right at the front from about where the sway bolts up.
My questions are 1. Where can i measure to check the chassis is not bent??
2. Best way to repair? Could i cut a section of another chassis and graft it on???
have attached photos, hopefully they work
Thanks,
Luke

You could replace the damaged half of that side of the rail by grinding away at the weld until it is gone. Then do the same to a donor piece but on the opposite half. Then dress the donor bit, put it on and weld it up.
Or a beater might be able to straighten it for you.
If you send me a PM I can send you a picture of where to check dimensions too.

Good advice,I would probably do a check then,by time you"reweld"it ETC.Or buy another one(chassis)they are cheap enough,I'm not a big fan of chassis rewelding unless its really hard to get another one,but thats just me..Get the dimensions from Byron thou, thats a great help.doesn't look that bad in the pics.

If it was a truck they would do a diagonal cut and just weld another front piece on. They stretch truck chassis all the time like this.... with an engineers certificate of course.
It takes no weight there really anyway, only the bumper and one corner of the front. HK's idea would be pretty straight forward as well. You have to repair if you dont want to loose the chassis number.
