Hello All,

Still in process of restoring my HG Monaro, recently pulled lower control arms off crossmember for refurbishment, found pivot point on drivers side front to be badly worn. (No threaded surface left on top of pivot). Is ther any way of repairing?

I have another crossmember margainly better, also some wear on same pivot point.

When reassembling should some grease be applied to the threaded area the bush slips over to help prevent further wear?

Some searching has suggested HK crossmembers and control arms are not interchangable with HG? Anyone confirm?

Also on my spare crossmember the front brace has no holes in the side of brace, all others I've seen have holes in sides as well as top, what might this crossmember be out of?

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks, Steve

OK, your talkin about th "K frame" or "front cross member"

the body of k frame is all th same, just different lower control arm pivot shaft from HK to HT/G (HK is smaller diam, with no thread im middle)

you could get a shaft out of another one (they screw out but can be hard to get moving)

the "outrigger" (sticks out front of K frame is solid sided on all later HG models"

hope that all makes sense

Thanks Dave, whats the best method of unscrewing pivot shaft, is it one piece thru the crossmember ( 2 pivots on one shaft- 2 shafts per crossmember ) or is 4 seperate shafts?

Is there many cars out there that have good shafts to source from? The ones I have seen are usually worn.

Is the idea of some grease on pivot before pressing in bushes a fair idea or would it lead to reduced life of the rubber bushes?

Thanks

Steve

yes, just one piece per side. heat up with oxy, or weld a big nut onto it & screw out thru front (usually take a fair bit to get moving!
th thread where bush fits is fairly blunt & i would have some good ones here with no wear on em

they unscrew looking from the rear of the k frame turn them clockwise as dave said a bit of heat.but you can put 2 nuts on the thread one acting as a lock nut but not easy.there is someone on ebay selling new ones but i think only hk type which may be different
