i don't do this everyday, i'm sure others do, hence the question

where the pickup is bolted onto the main bearing cap, once you've swapped it over do both bolts need to be re-tensioned or just the one you remove? or the whole lot?

thanks in advance

Only the one that you've removed.

Make sure you replace the 2 x screws that hold the pickup to the block. Originals are not high tensile and they stretch.

ill just add that a very thin smear of goo on the gasket is good insurance as well, i use a product, name escapes me now but its called "aviation sealant" or someuch (little white bottle with red cap), its painted on real thin and doesnt harden or go where it shouldnt once the pickup is bolted back up.

I use it on almost every gasket that sees oil or water, its good stuff!

That sealant would be PERMATEX NO:3. Hard setting is NO:4

righto
changing over a VK 308 to HG spec
VK pickup bracket is bolted to second main bearing cap, HG bracket is bolted onto block itself. what's the done thing? cut/shut/bend/tweak the HG bracket to fit the VK bearing cap location or drill/tap the VK block to fit the HG bracket? seems firm when tensioned, i'm wondering why there is a requirement for the secondary attachment location? last thing i want to do is drill and tap a fresh and clean assembled block. do the vibrate or something? heaps of crank clearance.

surely someone has put a commodore block into an early? what'd you do? cheers
