Has anyone any thoughts on the cause of frothy cream/grey coloured deposits all over the valve train and under the rocker cover of the 179 HD I've just bought?
Because this stuff is fairly thick and gooey, can it be cleaned off with a clean paintbrush and spray degreaser without causing problems draining down into the oil pan during a oil and filter change?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Looks like a head gasket has gone, or possibly a block problem. Whatever and wherever it is you have a point where the oil and water are mixing.

Sorry, sounds like a strip down ahead.
