I've searched this site from top to bottom looking for some info on my late 74 Acacia Ridge built HQ GTS4. Trying to work out why my boot, firewall, front chassis, rad suport and engine bay are painted grey and not tuxedo black.

The firewall is definately original paint and its grey. The boot and rad suport and engine bay have been poorly repainted by a previous owner in the same grey.

All the gurus say that GTS's were finished in Warrigal black and later Tuxedo black. Were 4-doors treated differently or maybe Acacia Ridge messed up with mine? Its an XW8 optioned car if that makes any difference.

Anyone else out there with a late 74 Acacia Ridge built GTS4?

Thanks

The firewall etc are paint chassis black, the stripes are Warrigal or tuxedo black.

Warren, are you saying my inner guards and radiator support would have been painted chassis black like the firewall and boot? (grey in my case) or were the inner guards and radiator support painted different to those areas?

Firewall and boot would have been the same chassis black mixture I guess?

I've read posts from D.A.Barnes and Ben Stewart and a couple of others saying:

"The correct colour for the black in a HQ GTS engine bay is Warrigal black as the cars were premium level" . . . . "GTS's were finished in Warrigal black and later Tuxedo black" . . . . "Ben Stewart told me that this was for a certain standard of look under the hood of the premuim products in the line up" . . . . "engineering paperwork makes special mention of the under hood area with regard to paint finish" . . . . and others claim that only GTS's got this treatement.

I am unaware of this engineering paperwork, but if Ben and D A Barnes say they have the info then I would go with what they have said.

I can say that Sydney did experiment with body coloured firewalls for a short period.

Inner guard finish and chassis finish wuld be off line and consistant colout for all cars.

No worries, I might PM them and find out more.
Interested to know if the boot area was painted with the same random 'chassis black' mix as the firewall. I'm guessing it probably was.

I was led to believe that some left over paints were mixed together and created a grey/black colour which would vary in shade per batch and used in bays and boots?

Underneath, boot, fiewall were all the same colour. So if GTS was to have gloss black then the whole lotwillbe that way. Did Ben say it was just Monaro GTS or was Premier and Statesman the same?
