Wow, didn't realise the aftermarket support was there. Looks like you can even adjust the amount of assistance it gives, simply by turning a knob. What a neat system.

Yes it is adjustable for assistance level.I only purchased the basic controller. They have several others. One that increases the electric motor torque and one like mine that is also speed sensitive.. The elctronics in mine are fairly basic. All it does is replicated the OE speed signal. ie the more the assistance needed the slower the speed signal and vice versa.

I learnt a lot about the EPAS that was put in the last models of the Ford Territory - and it's a much more intricate system, relying on CAN communications, and linking in to various modules in the vehicle (I'm guessing a fair chunk of it is to do with stability control too). The assist motor & some of the electronics are built right into the rack.

The early 2000s GM one sounds like a much simpler arrangement with only needing a speed signal - I thought it would need a full-on control system like running an aftermarket ECU on a late model engine. Much simpler than the complex electro-hydraulic units they also did, with a remote electric pump & reservior (running a traditional hydraulic rack).

Brake master cylinder, pedal box and pedal, steering column and accelerator pedal assembly all fitted. A mega jigsaw puzzle that all had to go together in the correct order. I'm glad I took a few pictures as I pulled it all apart.. I still need to refit the main brace from the column to the plenum. This won't go on until everything is finished. That way it's one less thing to work around..

Final steering mockup done. The shaft still in primer has been cut to final length and countersinks drilled in each end for the uni joint grub screws. Now painted and hanging waiting to go together tomorrow night..

Brake pipes finished. All that's needed now are the front caliper flexible hoses. I will wait until the calipers are mounted until I make them. I also locked up the last two grub screws on the steering shaft. I needed shorter ones. The uni joint is hidden up inside the firewall and a bugger to get to

Exhaust finished and electrical started. Hopefully get the wiring finished next week and everything tested ready to fire the following weekend..

Shortened pulley clears the radiator so that's a bonus. Now the engine is in neither of the mounts for the alternator or A/C compressor will work. Both units foul the inner guards so it's back to square one. I mocked up a couple of options which look like they will clear everything. Just another day wasted getting them sorted.

Shifter linkage sorted. Interestingly LOKAR do not list a shifter for our Aussie Trimatic. I thought to myself that seeing we have TH350 and TH400 fitted to Holdens there can't be too much difference between them all. This shifter is listed for TH350, TH400 and 4L60. It works perfectly. The arm ratios are spot on. Every detent on the shifter matches the corresponding gear position on the transmission perfectly. Very Happy..

Steering sorted along with a heap more little jobs. Getting there. Everything electrical we have tested so far is working. Still need to connect the fuel safety cutoff and the transmission gear indicator sender unit.

Electric power steering column sorted for the EH ute. XC Barina electric column, electronic controller from rallywiz.com and a shortened LH-LX Torana rack on a CRS modified HR front end.

More things finished tonight. LPG cutoff wired in and used as an electric fuel pump cutout. It allows the pump to run for 5 seconds when the ignition is turned on. It then disconnects the pump until the engine starts and runs. I also fitted a control box for one of my wiper kits up beside the glovebox. It sits up high on the A pillar and held in place with velcro so it's removable. The decoder unit for the gear shift display is wired and fitted down low behind the kick panel. Finally I fitted a wiper switch in place of the original cigarette lighter. This now works as a switch to manually operate the thermo fans.

Front brakes sorted, Luckily I could reuse an existing set of brackets I had here by simply drilling a new set of holes. The wheels even fit and turn. I ended up with BA 6 cyl rotors and AU2/3 calipers. Front hubs redrilled to Ford pattern so they match the rear now. Flexible hoses to get done and then the system can be filled and bled.








I decided to change the Chinese 14" thermo fans to a pair of good old Aussie Davies Craig 14" units. Interestingly the Davies Craig units bolted in to exactly the same mounts. Looks like one has copied the other. The big difference however is the air flow. Alternator now sorted including wiring..

Had a EUREKA moment last night at about 2am. I have a problem with the intermediate steering shaft universal joint binding and destroying itself. It already has too much damage to use. However in a moment of early morning genius I remembered that the stock Torana steering uni has heaps of angular movement and will allow a greater difference in angle between the two shafts. The Borgeson uni is only good for 30 degrees whereas the Torana uni will easy handle a lot more, probably 40-45 degrees. Problem solved. Another major problem solved also with the radiator lower outlet moved from the rear to the bottom of the bottom tank. This means heaps of clearance around the lower hose that would have been just touching the oil filter and also airconditioning belt. Third and final major task completed is the front flexible brake hoses. A mockup hose was dropped off today and a pair of stainless braided hoses will be ready tomorrow. Hopefuly get some chassis end mounting brackets made an fitted, flexible hses fitted, and the system bled this weekend. ROAD TEST NEXT WEEKEND...

Now you see it, now you don't. Finally got the fuse/relay panel mounted to it's hinged support. It hangs down nicely so everything is easily accessible under the glovebox. Then when you're finished it hinges up and sits behind the glovebox. It's not visible at all unless you have eyeballs in your knees.

Flexible brake hoses fitted so finally the brake system is finished. Time to add some fluid and see if we can get a pedal. Radiator lower hose outlet done. The old outlet is still there and will be used to house a temp sender. This will allow me to see the water temp after it's been through the radiator and before it gets back into the motor..
