Mate I was chasing one for my sons VK Calais.
There pretty rare, I made a lot of enquirers all over Aus finally found one a couple of weeks ago.
Borgies Auto Spares Melton Victoria 03 9743 5000, they are extremely helpful.
Mario the proprietor had one at home, been in a cupboard for 16 years, great condition and it even worked.

Might be worth a call as I got the impression he may have had more than one.

Good luck, Rob

Hi Johno,

Is the VK and VL Calais radio the same?
While I was searching (2 weeks ago) I came across one at Commodore Bitz Morisset NSW 02 4973 5564.
He was asking $150 for it, It's in a VK Calais, still fitted, don't know if it was in working condition, but it's the premium one with the joystick audio controller.

I have a photo I can send if you have an email or mobile.

Cheers, Rob

The VK Calais radio carried into early VL Calais for the first month or 2 of production. If your VL is after Feb 86, then it should have the later VL radio in it.

Be very careful with these radios - they went into multiple other cars - not just the GMH range either - and many crooks will flog anything on eBay for a dollar - more than half on there at one stage had fake Peter Brock cassette flaps in them...

The VK Calais one has a joystick - but make sure it has the 3 buttons under the joystick - the SLE Camira got the same radio, but without those 3 buttons.
Also, the VK radios light up green behind the buttons. Camira light up orange/red. Many times crooks will swap cassette flaps & side brackets, but haven't got enough intelligence to go further.

This ad shows an example of a non-GMH Eurovox (retail sale) radio - it has eurovox on the flap. The 2nd picture shows the correct green backlighting for the VK:
http://www.gumtree.com.a...e-brock-vk-vl/1097108545

This page shows you the BMW version of the same radio: http://www.bmwforums.com...read.php/19214-E30-Radio

This page (scroll down) shows the Porsche version - with the wider side wings, like the WBII used: http://www.amstereo.org/factory3.htm

With the VL Calais, a similar radio was used in the Berlina, and some other cars (including the Camira & RB Gemini).
Again, only the VL Calais got the full complement of buttons.
You need to make sure it has balance and fade (Berlina only had balance) and that it has the 2 buttons in the corner (APS & Dolby) where other models, and the Berlina, had these blanked off. And yet again, watch for the colour of the backlighting - VL are green, Camira are orange. VL have green LED display, others have red/orange.
And the screenprinting on the face - Camira have orange writing on the face, VL have white.

From google image search:
This is a Berlina type: http://i6.tinypic.com/8bzw95h.jpg
This is a Calais type: http://i49.tinypic.com/ww15ja.jpg
And the orange printing on a Camira one: http://i.ebayimg.com/00/...wMFgxNjAw/z/DykAAOSwHjNV~5JS/$_75.JPG
Cheers,

Mick

My Calais is a late 87 The owners manual for the radio came with it and my radio was the no joystick model with the fade/balance dial/switch The search continues
Very helpful to identify the fakes

No probs. I went through this process years ago, and it's much harder these days.

I ended up getting stung with a Camira one on eBay on the early 2000s, but in a twist of irony/karma I sold it back to the original seller on eBay (in the days before Paypal & protection).

Cheers,

Mick
