A 1973 holden statesman with a factory fitted 350 chev motor, would this be a rarer car than one fitted with 308 motor.
Terry

NB.
What would one of these be worth in reasonable condition??

Still no answer to my question, assume this is a genuine 350 factoty fitted?? can this be verified were they sold with 350,s and would it be rarer than the 308,s, perhaps Dr Terry would know??

Is it a factory fitted chev engine or has someone put it in at some stage in its life will affect the value greatly, wankers love factory fitted chev engines a tosser I meet the other day reckons it has a factory fitted 350 in a HJ. Put $50 or $60 k on it to get the woodies in.

Yes GMH fitted 350 to both Statesman and Deville plus the Chevrolet badged versions. Many 1000's made but lots less than 308. Remember the 308 was standard in Deville. A 1973 played HQ Statesman or Deville will show a U in the VIN and L30 on the body plate.

Thanks for that HK1837, We will be having a look at car today will know some more about it then, if it is a genuine 350 factory i guess it is worth a bit more than a std 308

It definitely is for cars in the same condition. The engine parts alone are worth lots more to a 1973 GTS auto restorer plus the TH400.

All 350 powered HQ got the same diff yoke. It is really the "350" diff yoke that later also got used on all HQ-WB cab chassis once HQ commercials started to be built late in 1971.

So, what was the outcome ... was the Statesman a genuine "L30" plated 350 V8 ?

Any genuine HQ 350 is a rare beast ... this engine option was only available on Monaro GTS, Monaro LS, or Statesman De Ville. Contrary to some advice, the Statesman Custom was limited to either a standard 202, or optional 253 and 308 engines.

Hi Lingus.
Yes its a genuine 350 but terribly rusted in the roof, originally had a vinyl roof, would need a new body

Not quite right. You could only option the 350 on GTS sedan, V8 LS, Statesman V8 and Statesman Deville. The 350 was standard on GTS350 coupe. It was also available in the "Statesman" based Chevrolet 350 and Caprice, these were essentially an export but selling them locally as consulate cars was regarded as "export". You could option the 350 on a V8 Statesman, pretty rare car though. Plus the myriad of specially ordered utes, wagons etc fitted with the 350ci engine but none of them officially orderable by regular punters.

Cheers Terry ... was there a price attached to this rusty hulk ? ... I'm assuming there would be some value in it as a source for parts, as suggested by HK1837.
