Hi guys ,
looking at buying a vh sle with this tag.

VH8VX69-382
BODY NO 585960-A
TRIM 4006-29Y
PAINT 2J011-D
BUILD FEB 83
ENG L31 TRANS M40 AXLE -G70

please tell me that its a genuine Tahitian blue over silver vh sle with indigo blue interior & 5.0 LTR engine?
I firstly know nothing mechanically about cars , I have just read heaps of forums over the last few days as to work out if this car is a mockup.
I'm waiting for the photos of the other tags.
im unsure where too look to see if its a genuine 5 litre sle.
thanks guys for any help

With those numbers, you have a genuine car that matches what you've been told.

It definitely began life with a 5.0L/trimatic/2.60 diff powertrain.

It is a genuine Tahitian/Mercury shadowtone car according to the numbers, with dark blue interior trim (all dark blue, not 2-tone like some were).
Cheers,

Mick

thankyou so much commodorenutt
I have read many of your posts over many different websites to decipher as much as I could on my own .
the car looks all good except for different diff & different gearbox & non original wheels & steering wheel.
So how do I now tell if that 5.0 LTR engine is the orininalbelongs in that car.
should a engine number match with something else?

Unless you have the original owner's manual with the engine number recorded in it, and it matches what's on the block (and the block hasn't been restamped) then there's no real way to confirm it.

You can look at the casting date of the block, and it should be anywhere up to 9 months prior to the car, but certainly not after it (or years before it).
The engine number (assuming it's not a re-stamp) will start with VT, and being Feb '83 you should be around the VT315xxx series of engine numbers, give or take 10,000 either way.
Cheers,

Mick
