Years ago I found the PBS under the carpet underlay in my grandfather's 7/71 HQ Premier. Really interesting document.
When I visited Dandenong years ago (1981 - VC Commodore) I remember they had the PBS taped on the bonnet of each car.
Tried to find the PBS under the carpet in my last WB Statesman and just now in my current one with no luck.
Did Holden put a copy of the PBS in each car or was it random?
I vaguely remember someone posting that it was also sometimes left tucked in the hood lining - is that true?
It would be great to see the PBS of my car, but I reckon it was probably never put in the car or someone's already taken it out.

Based on my searches over the last 20+ years in commodores, it would be less than 1 in 100 cars that had them (VB-VK).
It seems to be a pattern where cars that were out of the ordinary got them - like a March 17 Green VC I came across, a VC SL with factory Harrison Air & other options like rear shelf speakers, fader and SL/E over-riders (all on the PBS). In VH they pop up most often in an SS based car, same with VK - Group As seem to be closer to a 1 in 4 chance, and other specials like a fleet colour or BT1 tend to have a better chance of finding them.
In VL, the tables turned. Almost every Adelaide VL I've checked has had one - maybe 1 in 5 miss out. Same with Melbourne, except for a block of time where they are very scarce.
Again, specials like Group As (both types) Calais wagons, Opera House, Series 200 & LE models seem to have them in greater % numbers.
In VN, they ran until about March 1990, and maybe 50% of them I've checked have had one.
One of the most unique places I found one was in the roof of a VN. Still taped to the windscreen opening, and folded back under the headlining, with the mirror & sunvisor clips screwed through it. VB-VK seemed to be anywhere it could fit - taped to the rear bulkhead is the most common, but also in the rear footwells.
I spoke to a guy in Adelaide about 5 years back, when I was at the plant on business. He remembered the PBSs in cars from when he first started in the VK/WB era. He said it all depended on who was on the line at that point. Some guys threw them in the bin, then had to empty the bin. Other guys were too lazy to empty the bin, and shoved them wherever they'd fit. One of the things he remembered backed up my findings with non-standard builds having a higher % chance of having one - if a car got "factory options" that weren't common, they would have to leave the PBS on display past various inspection points, so they could be identified as something different, and checked off. He said VK with power steering was one where they had to do this for a while, as it often got missed in earlier stations, requiring time-consuming rework. On VL they often have "P/S" in red, or the box circled, suggesting the same problem in VL assembly as well. |

Here's a weird one. Lifted the front carpet on a HX and found 4 PBSheets, none of them matched the car. Edited by user Saturday, 31 December 2016 3:26:22 PM(UTC)

I once owned a late 1974 HQ Kingswood sedan (with the best Vic rego ever IAM 327 !). I found the PBS under the front LH carpet, and reckon I'd still have it somewhere...even though the car got made into a HQ racer when the height of that was going on.... ...I know exactly where to look, so I'll report back. I bet it depended on who trained the new staff too. People are creatures of habit. If they were taught by old mate who just chucked them in the bin I bet every one he taught did the same.

Only problem was the previous owner had fish-oiled the whole car, including under the carpet, and they were glued in place. All were H-series sheets. |

I used to work for Avis as a car detailer during VN days. I kept the PBS from a couple of them (Exec spec in those cases. Nothing fancy). They were with the owner's manual. My WB is out of the ordinary - black, front bench seat - so I'll try the areas you suggested. You never know...
