By the way I think that the 302 chev was the best performance engine chev made back in the days and the 302 Windsor has proven it's self to be the best 5.0L V8 engine of all and our Aussie Holden 308 in Formula 5000 was not bad at all.

The Chev 5.0L racing block deck had to be lowered to make it perform to the standard of the Windsor 302 in our aussie racing cars, sadly we never got to see how the truth of how the 5.7L gen3 would of went from 1997 on against the V8 Falcon truck engine. I think there would of been a lot of blown engines going on, not to mention the fords V8 would not have a hope keeping with the Commodores with that great lump V8.

The Z28 302 was a good engine, but it was not as good as the Z28 LT1 as a standard engine. The LT1 like the Z28 was under-rated deliberately. NHRA rate the 1970 LT1 at 425hp, And logically the LT1 will be a far more powerful engine as apart from the stroke and the pistons they are to all intents and purposes the same engine. Same cam, same heads, same intake, same carby etc. I'm talking street here, not in race conditions.
