Wasn't sure where to put this on the Forum, here seems as good as any.

My Wife has a business association with Phil Murray, the son of old Jack Murray. A few years back she asked me if I knew of Jack Murray and she was surprised that I did. That is how I found out about Phil's new book about his Dad.

Many of you would have heard of Jack especially with regards to the 1954 Redex trial. Others may have not. Phil gave us a signed copy to read, I haven't started yet but will soon. Just thought I'd give it a plug for him here amongst car enthusiasts. The front page quote by Dick Smith says a lot. The link below is simply so that anyone interested can see the book's cover, not necessarily buy it from the Publisher. It is as far as I know available at Booktopia, QBD etc too.

Here is a radio interview with Phil on Mornington Peninsula radio if you have 20min spare:

Jack Murray famous for his larrakin antics which included using gelignite to blow stuff up during trials. A character from an age when characters could be larger than life without worrying about political correctness and minor transgressions of the law for the sake of fun and entertainment.

Ive got an issue of "the womens weekly" or similar magazine from '54 with a fantastic 50's era pic of his FX / FJ ? redex car on the cover. Obviously very big news in the day. Im going to get that framed one day, its squirreled away in a box somewhere with other old magazines and books. You just reminded me to add that to my to do list,
thanks.

I will read this definitely. As i have just finished an audio book called Dust and Glory by Evan Green (supercar scare)who new Jack Murray well.It is a fictitious account of the 1956 redex trial (which never happened)a good yarn with much detail that could only come from personally knowing the man and rallying. Oily.
PS. A rare talent .Solder Wrestler Aussie F1 and Rallying including the 79 reliability event i believe.
