Hi im currently changing my old tired 253 with my brother-in-law's re cond 253. now iv never changed a engine before just woundering if there any tricks to know to make my life easer?
im taking his engine and trans as one hole piece taking off the bonnet and once front is on stands then drop the tail shaf and then the trann's crosmember so once i get the crain on the engine i should just be able to gide it out.... DO I HAVE THE RIGHT IDER? :I
Also wile im un bloting things i dont want engine and trans to drop so whats best to support it where would be the best place to put supports?

Drainthe oil out of the gearbox first or it will leak every where. You will have to tilt the engine up at the front quite steeply unless you take the nosecone etc off. I usually get it out as far as I can then put a plank across the chassis under the engi

Also put a jack under the rear of the gearbox and remove the cross member completely, then the rear can be lowered as you lift the front.
