G'day all,
I was driving along the M5 Motorway today, and my rear nearside wheel fell off, and overtook me down the road, I managed to get it over to the breakdown lane and watch my wheel go about 1/2km further up the road where it stopped in the middle of the lane and the truck that had been beside me when it happened, stopped and 2 guys got out and picked the wheel up and f***ed off with it! At first I thought they might be gonna help me out or something and drive off the next exit and turn around and bring it back for me, but 1 1/2 hrs later when the NRMA towtruck finally arrived there was no sign of them or my wheel!!!! There was nothing special about it, it was just an old kidney mag, in not very good condition, with a few gutter scrapes, and a tyre that will need replacing before next rego, so I ask you, why the hell would anybody do that? now I got one standard rim on there that doesnt match and no bloody spare! The mind boggles.
Cheers.Russ.

P.S. I Had a spare diff at home, and all I had to change was the backing plate, which bore the brunt of the slide and, the bottom shackel plate, which I also happened to have a spare of, the car was back on the road 2 hours later(albeit with no spare and an odd wheel!).

Russ,

You must have done that sometime between 1100am and 200pm. Every othertime walking is faster than the M5 traffic flow. Sad news mate ! Sorry.

There are plenty of pond scum out there that deserve retribution.

Use the M7 next time....better

You didn't have a Commodore wheel on by chance? LOL

Seriously though, that's a pricks act.

If you had a commodore wheel problem I would have stopped to help!
I'm often on the M5, but had to go into the city for a course this week instead.

Cheers,

I would have to ask why did it like you say fell off, you say it needed replacing before the next rego. I would say it needed replacing now. Here you are complaining about a crappy rim when you should have been thanking god for not causing a major acciden

Russ.

Check the wheel studs for being 'bent' or damaged threads. Just as a precaution.

Also check that the other mag is not a Commodore or one of the 70's made examples with the centre hole way to big for the axle. Either of these place WAY TOO much
