I finally got my red 308 back into my ski boat after replacing the floors and transom. The motor fires up but is not getting any oil pressure. Motor has been sitting for sometime, oil filter and oil was changed before fitting back to boat. After starting filter is still bone dry so its not getting primed. I have heard of filling the pump with vaso - do you just put it in where the gears are ? Or I have also heard of connecting an air line fitting into the sender hole and fitting clear tube to it then to a vacumn source, ie brake booster on a running car? I'm using a mechanical gauge as well.

Hi sandmanowners.
These pumps don't pump very well dry. Remove it, take off the cover & pack it with a good hi-temp bearing grease. Also fill the filter with engine oil. Refit it & start the motor.
That usually does the trick.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

Thanks Dr.T, it worked like a charm. Tappets still sound noisey, not sure how many hours are on the donk but will just keep driving it till I upgrade.
