My mate has a holden Barina he's had since new in 1992. One morning about a year ago he tried to start it and it wouldn't start.
There was nowhere in Katherine to take it, he was told, except Wynholden so he took it there.
They put in a new coil and capacitor, charged him $600 and told him they couldn't fix the car because the computer was dead and they couldn't get a readout because their machine wasn't capable of reading cars as old as 1992!!
There's a place in Darwin will do it. It'll cost $300 to get the car to Darwin to do that! And that's just a printout. The car still needs fixing, whatever's wrong.
I find this to be totally incredible. Totally. Is it for real? Is he really stuck like this? Is there no other way?
Can we pull the computer out? Can we take a pc there and some software? Can we make it a 'traditional' car somehow so's it can travel?
Is there anything? (If there isn't I'll never, ever buy a 'modern' car).
regards,
ab :)

Hi abrogard.
What model is this Barina. The 1st Barina with a computer controlled EFI system was the SB series released in 1994 & this didn't have a capacitor with its coil.
People often talk about print outs & fault codes etc, but in reality diagno |

Dr Terry is right , the MH doesnt have a computer . Mine died like this a couple of months ago and it turned out to be just a loose spade connector in the distributor . If it is the next model though it is a totally different car . I have a mate with one |

Hi. I bought a 2002 Opel Vita and a month ago it stopped and won't start. I am told that there is a fault in the computer and needs replacement. It's costing $2700.00. Is there a cheaper option or can't they really fix it?

Hi Guys.
What is an Opel Vita. Is that a mis-type or a car we don't see in Australia. What country are you posting from ?
We hava a Holden Viva, but it's not an Opel and they weren't released until Oct '05, so there is no 2002 model.
