hi all i have an impco gas conversion on my 202, today it stared up fine and i drove off down the road. I got about 1k down the road i could smell gas very strongly, and the car started coughing and sputtering like i had no gas, the it stalled, so i pulled off the road.

i opened the bonnet to find my converter completly iced over. and strong smell of gas, the car wouldn't start again. A friends dad told me to check my radiator it might be low and have no water/coolant, sure enough a check found the water was low, i poured water in and it took 2 liters to fill. By this time the converter seemed to look normal.

After numerous attempts to start the car, including jump starts all failed. 6 hours later i came back to tow the car, i tried to start it and it started with ease, but the idle was rough so i let it sit with choke on at about 1000rpm, after about the minutes it started to sputter again, and it stalled... i opened the bonnet to find the converter frosted over again.

in the end i poured petrol down the carb(it wouldn't start on petrol either) then jump started it then i drove it home.

Does any body havy any ideas as what could be wrong or what i can do to test possible causes?

You have to bleed all the air put of the cooling system as the hot radiator water stops the convertor freezing. If the convertor is mounted above the radiator outlet height, you may have to bleed the convertor separately to the rest of the cooling system.

What Dave said is right but there may be a bit more to it.

First of all where did the two litres go? If you have lost them once you can loose them again. Make sure you don't have any leaks. Check the radiator, all of the hoses, the welsh plugs, the

sound like the converter needs a kit letting high pressure into the low pressure side which is liquid lpg freezing the converter if you can hear gas from line from converter to mixer with key on not engine running also the purge button on converterwill be

I only use impco when doing the gas conversions at my workshop. The impco gas convertors are a great convertor which have very little problems. It would be very unlikely if the convertor needs a kit. Like the others say the first thing u need to do is hav
