I hope one of the very knowledgeable people who regularly use this forum can help interpret a date code on my HK. The code is stamped into the passenger side of the 'outrigger' on the front crossmember. It reads 6L8D. I believe this means 6 November 1968 (which fits because the car was delivered to its original owner in January 1969) BUT can anyone tell me what the letter D at the end signifies?

The D stands for Dandenong plant, I think?

Day shift probably. Chev engines have D and A on them denoting Day and Afternoon I believe.

Thanks guys - I was unsure about whether it may have been Dandenong because the Monaro is a Sydney car (42470S), has only had two owners, and to the best of my knowledge still has the original crossmember in it. I will have a look around at others to see
