Hi all

Just lookingfor some guidance on how what sort of milage you should get from a set of points in a holden6 Red motor.
My last set burned after 9000kms. The condensor was replaced at the last change as well.
Just wondering if this could point to the distributor needing replacement soon. I dont want to go electronic because I have a fully recond points set up ready to install it is just a question of when. Thanks for any tips

on average i see them dieing any where from 5000km's to 20000km's
depending on the car.
the correct gap (and not just close enough) makes a big difference.
also bigger coils such as the GT40 bosch items can make a difference to points life too.

I have seen them get to 50,000k, but ALWAYS replace the points and condenser as a set or you will have problems with the one you did not replace burning out early.
For the value of a set of points I can't see that putting you off electronic though, far s
