Hi,

I have a 1979 HZ Premier, 253, trimatic with front discs and rear drums and was wanting to replace the brake booster and master cylinder. Bought a V8 brake booster off ebay which has a code of VH262 stamped on the top, and the current one has VH277. They both seem the same, but just want to check if anybody knows if there is any difference?

Hi HZ Premier.

My listing shows VH262 suits the HQ/HJ application & VH277 suits HX/HZ.

AFAIK the main difference is the way they fit the pedal, the HX/HZ type has a different end to the pushrod compared to the earlier HQ/HJ type.

I don't think it
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

Yes the ealier ones look identical however they have an adjustable U bracket where it attaches to the pedal, the later HX HZ style have a solid bar with a hole in it to accept a lug through it and the brake pedal (and is non adjustable).

Cheers

Don't worry about getting a new booster. Just get a HQ or HJ brake pedal. I think the hole location is the only difference, but check them side by side at the wrecker's first.

Yes the boosters have different ends
Yes changing the pedal to suit the booster will fix the issue
If you want a better booster get a VH359 off a disc braked HZ and it will have more boost
