Hello to all,
I have been reading all the info I can about the correct gap for the vk dizzy (Fitted to Red 186), but am unable to find the correct value. I have been told 0.9mm all the way to 1.5mm. I have been told that a gap of 1.5 is not needed and that 0.9mm works just the same. Is this true??? I was under the impression that the elec ignition needed the wider gap to work correctly, but I am being told otherwise by ignition places and other forums, and then backed up with people saying no it is 1.5mm. I know it comes down to spark duration and timing, but this still baffles me (smaller the gap longer the duration of spark needed from coil and vice versa). Can anybody tell me in laymans term what is the correct gap for the VK elec Ignition on a Red 186 running 161 head (10:1 comp).
cheers james

Hi James.
If you're using the Bosch HEI dissy with the correct coil & feeding it with the full 12 volts, then the factory recommendation is 1.5mm.
I've found in my workshop (over the last 26 years since Bosch HEIs have been around) that you have les |

Hi James,
When I first put electronic ignition only my red 202, I stuck with 0.9mm. It didn't run particularly well, and I eventually realised it had to be opened up to 1.5mm. Thought it ran much better. However, when I finally took it in to a dyno

Cheers Dr Terry and Jason,
I might buy some of those super bosch plugs to suit, as they already have the 0.9 gap. My dizzy has also been regraphed to suit the 186 with 161 head, and the new coil installed (716??-non-can type). The ignition wires ha |
