I'm able to get a m20 pretty cheap but needs full rebuild. Just wondering if anyone has an idea on how much a rebuild will cost me. Also where is the shifter likely to end up after bolting to a 202 in an lj? Sorry guys this might seem dumb but i've never touched a gearbox before and this is all new to me. Thanks fellas

The shifter is in the same spot ass all ausse 4 speeds. Just go to the wrekers and measure up one out of a wreck. Drill 4 holes in each corner and then jig saw it out Also include in your rebuild 4 new brass syncro rings.

The LJ's have soem double skinning on the trans tunnel, except where the shifter goes through. Without the box in there, look up at the trans tunnel and it is very obvious where you need to cut a hole for the shifter.
As Crowe said, drill a hole (from

Cost me $550 to have my m20 rebuilt in Bris. That included a new ring gear or something, it wasn't in such good condition, but the rest of the gearbox was good to start with. All I really needed were two 50c plastic clips for the linkages, but I figured

Gee If your handy you can do it yourself. I Changed my M20 to a M21. Anyway thats another story. I did a bearing kit and 2 new syncro ring all up for about $120 about 4 years ago. Not hard but you need to know what your doing.

From what the others have said so far the hole in the floor sounds easy enough. Providing the clutch pedal and linkage bolt straight in, the rest of the conversion should be easy.
I converted a trimatic Gemini to manual a few years ago
