Hello all,

well my ute is finally ready to be put on the road and the only thing stopping me is a mod plate for the bucket seats.. i bought the ute with the bucket seats already in it and i was sure without the mod plate it was illegal to drive so i don't know how the previous bloke got away with it...i bought it in vic so it might be different regulations to here (QLD) anyway i haven''t been able to find a mod plate, is there any wierd places it might be on the vehicle?

Also the bucket seats rear bolts use the original holes but the front bolts have had new holes drilled with strengthening plates added. Looking at the strengthing plates they look a but small so i was wondering whether there is any specifications or particular size the plates need to be? basically i don't want to take it to get the mod plates fitted then be turned away...also any contacts in the brissy area that deal with this sort of thing would be great.
any info would be great,
cheers
john.

Why do you need a mod plate? A WB came standard (or optional) with buckets, and if you use WB buckets and runners they bolt into the original holes. Furthermore there is no difference between a bucket seat body and a bench seat body. The only thing you ne

i don't know why the mod plate, but when i went for a rwc the bloke said because the seating capacity says 3 on the compliance plate and the ute now has 2 bucket seats i need to obtain a mod plate. The seats have been put in by the previous

It's probably got commodore bucket seats - they require new holes to be drilled. Not sure about the mod plate though

Mod plates are fitted by authorised mechanics who inspect the modification and approve it, this is not done by the motor registry in Qld.

they wil have a list of approved people in your area.

No different to an engineers certificate in any other state.

They are very easy to get passed, if you do the mod right.

Warren, it is very different to NSW Engineers reports wrt seating. There is no way that you need an Engineer's report for fitment of factory options like buckets. In fact if I had to do this i'd be 'losing' the ADR plate and telling them it was originally

The problem is they know the seating anyway, the mod plate simply checks that the seats are securely anchored, how many cars have you seen that have had "dodgy" mods. I have seen some very "interesting" bucket seat conversions. Just because it was optiona

In reference to Byron's comments on fitment of bucket seats, i can tell you, as a QUALIFIED mechanic, mechanical engineer and RTA examiner, any seat fitment to many vehicle that requires modifications in any way to the seat runner, seat or floor(drilling

Agree. But fitting original seats using original parts and holes (which is the only way I'd ever do it) shouldn't (in NSW anyway). Ostensibly the same as changing a diff ratio, converting to auto, changing from single to twin headlight front, installing G
