I have a freshly sprayed hq coupe and now its come to the crunch, which combination of engine & transmission i wanna go for? since im not that mechanically and car minded it would be great to get a few suggestions and/or opinions of how certain engines go with certain transmissions.I want a good strong cruiser thats pretty reliable im just not sure wether i should go 400, 350, 327, 308 ? as i sed some opinion would be appreciated.

Obviously you aren't too concerned with originality, so I personally reckon the cheapest and easiest option is to buy a wrecked VN-VP V8 Commodore and stick the complete injected 5litre in.

Go with Byron Rich's suggestion, i had a tonner that i fitted that conversion into and it ran extremely well
