Hello there,
Just wanting to know, how do i find out what my diff ratio is. Im guessing it is still the original centre. The car is 77 LX SL 202.

If it is definitely the original diff, look on your Compliance Plate under the bonnet and tell us the code that is stamped on there for the diff.

The ratio is also USUALLY stamped on the collar on the front of the diff, just behind the rear uni joint.

Thanks for that, much appreciated. Stamped just below uni joint is 3.08.
So i guess then that that ratio is more suited to highway use. What ratio would you suggest that i go for when i install a beastier 202 (with tripples, 40/80 cam, roller rockers etc

i had a 186 with a 3.08 in it with a m20 aussie 4 speed it drove great but the 186 didnt have enought torque for hill starts i kno the 202 has more torque or if u want sumthink that has more off te mark speed go a 3.36 or 3.55 there all as beefy as each o

3.36 banjo centres are all over ebay so you should have no probs grabbing some, they'll make a difference without much change in economy.

With that cam, I'd suggest a 3.55 diff would be the way to go.

Try to buy a fine spline centre if you can. Although banjos are not exactly heavy duty units, the fine spline examples at least are a little tougher. One should last with the lack of low down torque that the engine you describe will suffer. Look in HZ 6cy

If you stick with the M20 go for the 3.36. If you had a 5 speed I may suggest 3.55, but that would still depend on your first gear ratio. Not much point gearing a manual car down too far otherwise it may render first gear useless. Also, I may be stating
