Further questions for those in the know about our HG project. 1. Does anyone know the upper HP limit on a Celica box before going to the Supra box? 2. Can you destinguish a rope seal 202 block from a knife seal type by the engine numbers? 3. Our Diff specialist swears that we can bolt HQ wheels onto a VL diff but not the other way around for the front discs ( WB pattern )? Comments please. 4. What is the HP rating on a VL 28 spline 4 bolt diff?

1. It is impossible to state an accurate HP limit of a box. Maybe you could stick your neck out and start talking torque, but either way it's all about when and how the torque is applied to the box. If you dump clutches in first gear and do flat shifts in |

Hi Guys.
You beat me to it, Byron. HP doesn't kill gearboxes or diffs. What kills drivetrain components is a combination of the torque of the engine versus the weight of the car, not to mention driving style.

I agree with Dr Terry about the combination of engine torque verses vehicle weight & driving style but would also throw traction into that mix which along with vehicle weight provides a resistance to the engines torque.
There is a modification that c |

Oh and in answer to question 4 the VL 4 pinion 28 spline diff is a Borg warner/BTR 78 series diff which is what Holden use to this day behind 6 litre V8's. Ford used them behind 351's in XD & XE's after they dropped the 9 inch & Chrylser used them behind |

Thanks Guys. All Good information. Sounds like the supra box is the way to go unless there are any other conversions available. As we have a VL diff already it would seem the best option is to fit HQ discs to the front with Commodore stud pattern and use
