When idling the HQ the headlights will get brighter when you rev the engine.
Is this just not enough revs to give power. I have a new alternator (3 yrs), new earth lead on battery (6 mths), good earths on thhe headlights? Any other hints from the punters - or should I just get on with it and not worry.

Check the charge rate at the battery and at the alt it should be around 13.50 volts to 14.20 volts

If you have upgraded the alternator (say 55 or 85 amps) you also SHOULD upgrade the alterantor output wire to the battery to handle the extra load.

Hi Holdenon,
There is a silver canister near the near side headlight radiator apron. Its the voltage regulator. I suspect yours is clapped out. An easy and cheap fix.

Thanks for all your comments I will check out the charge rate and return wire. The regulator was removed when I had the alt replaced as the one he put on has the regulator built into the alt?

If your charge rate is down it still may be the reg. The regs dont seem to last that long any more ,at least it is easy to change.
