I know it's still a bit of a tangent, but does that mean the 292's have the same bellhousing pattern as the v8 chevs? Do they use the same fly wheel / clutch etc (just thinking of putting a 5speed conversion behind it)?

Yes on all counts, but not sure if they had both 10.5" and 11" flywheels fitted - in terms of starter motor fitment.
