Started to swap the front panels over on the ute this weekend, and to no surprise found a couple of rust spots down below the drain pipes on both side. Not enough to warrant cutting them out and plating them, but enough not to leave them there. Would sanding the metal shiny then using rust convertor and finally tectile be a long term fix?? Or is there a better way to handle it. There are no holes just surface rust with no pitting. Cheers

If it's just surface rust then that fix is probably suitable.
Remove as much of the corrosion as you can and then either treat it with a rust converter such as deoxidene and then prime and paint or simply use on of the paint on products like POR-15 whi

I'm no expert, however, if you are going to use a rust converter, you need to leave some of the rust behind in order to convert it. Thanks for the info. Would like to overkill with the rust converter and not see the paint bubbling up again in 6 months time

Rust killer is usually phosphoric acid which converts the rust to iron phosphate I think, but the point is it needs a certain amount of iron oxide (rust) to work, even if just a thin coating like you would get on a shiny surface overnight. if it is just
