I am looking to rebuild a 351C for daily driver type use. There are plenty of opinions and I'm confused about which heads to use. I have read that the 4V heads are basically high rpm heads and not ideal for daily driver type use and that the 2V heads flow pretty well for down low grunt thru to mid range then run out of puff which is OK but then it was suggested I should use the 2V closed chamber heads for even more torque. Question is - what is the highest compression ratio I can run on premium unleaded with 2V closed heads ??? And do I have to run dished pistons ?? I believe the open chamber heads can't really go above 9:1 because they are more prone to knocking but the closed can go higher. Anyone with first hand experience ??

Hey buddy I would go the 2v closed chamber heads, I have 2v closed chamber on mine but they have been releived as some say the compression ratio will be too hi. I'm running 10.5:1 comp ratio with no problems. I have friends that are running 2v closed cham

Thanks for that - you are right - the answer is to cc the heads and do the maths. I am pleased to hear you can run up to 11:1 on premium.

What comp you can run depends on the fuel and the camshaft used also. With a F246 sized cam the limit with 2V CC heads was 10.5:1. I used to run 38deg total timing. XB Fairmont sedan : [email protected] |
