can anyone suggest how to stop the oil leak, i have replacce the rope oil seal 3 or 4 times , top and bottom sections ,works great for a while then leaks again, ive read that the later oil seal can be fitted
by grinding the rear main jurnal, could someone"please explane"??? all help needed

The later type of seal could be the answer but it is so long since I have worked on a 179 that I can't remember much about the seals.

I started working on new EH Holdens in August 1963 and rear main leaks were a very big problem. I was at a lar

Hi Ozi,

The motor has to come out !! Sorry. No easy cheap way around it.

When you use the rope seal kit:
(1) dont not cut the seals too short. when fitted both cap and crank ends MUST protrude 9about 1-2mm), so when compressed they seal. A flush cu

I've don them in the car...its a pain...it can be done..but I wouldn't recommend it...engine out is best..especially for a DIY repair.
