I have an EH with a stock generator whose bearings are starting to rattle. So my question is do I service the generator (new bearings) or just replace it with an alternator. If so what do I need to look out for? Any particular model of alternator recommended? Should I still use the existing regulator? Cheers...

It is ultimately your choice. Generator is original. Alternator is more efficient.
To fit alternator you just need an alternator bracket off any old Holden at the wreckers. A brand new Bosch alternator will bolt straight on, and they have an internal r |

Thanks peter, Thats exactly the info I was after. The car is 100% orig at this point, but I figure I can keep the generator & Im not doing anything distructive to put an alternator in. I just need to pick up a bracket. Cheers.

some of the very late EHs had alternators so not completely non original. The earlier alternators had separate regulator, I prefer this because if the regulator dies you only have to replace it, if the inbuilt regulator dies you have to either replace/re

When we fitted a new bosch alt on the HR we need a metric thread bolt I think it was 10 x 1.25 for the adjuster bolt and we turned the back housing of the alt around to give the wiring more clearance from the extractors.The reg is held in by two screws. W

I upgraded one of the HRs recently from a 55A alternator to an 85A alternator, it might help a bit to see what was involved, very simple job. http://gallery.oldholden...kguides/EngineIgnition/
