I have a 2002 Holden Astra CD, 5 speed manual, done about 80,000km. The car has developed a vibration at about 2400 rpm which can be felt through the driver's floor (no obvious noise). The vibration occurs in all gears but seems worse in the higher numbered gears (eg: 5th). The vibration goes away when the clutch is depressed. Interestingly, the vibration appears to have started shortly after I had a new set of tyres fitted (but I'm not convinced this event is related). Any suggestions as to the cause? Thanks in advance.

Did they do a wheel alignment when fitting the tyres?

Yes, balanced and aligned. When I depress the clutch at speed, and let the car freewheel, the vibration seems to disappear. At first glance this seems to rule out the tyres. However, depressing the clutch also removes the active force on the front axle
