I've got a HK ute I'm restoring from the ground up. Being my first car basically the question is what order do I go about things?

I've stripped most of the parts off the body already, so once that is all done, the next step would be to get the chassis out and do that followed by the body? The front end has been fully rebuilt so I guess I'll have to pull it apart to repaint it as well even though it seems ok, if I'm going to be repainting the rest of the chassis.

In regards to getting the paint off, I'll be going back to bare metal as I'm not sure how good the previous owner did the body work (bought it as a half finished project car). Would the best way to go be sandblasting? I'll have to go and talk to a few panel beaters etc but I thought all you guys who've had experience restoring cars might be able to point me in the right direction as to how to go about things.

Cheers

My preference for the order to restore a car is do the mechanicals first, then do the wiring/interior, then do the body last so your paint doesn't get scratched, etc when you are doing the other bits.

The only exception to this would be areas like the

It has no engine or gearbox at the moment, it's pretty much a rolling shell. So in that case paint would be best to do first? It's at the point where it needs to have old paint removed, a little body work and some rust repaired.

At work we get chassis and body blasted then etch primed. Then chassis painted and suspension fitted. While that is going on any metal replacement due to rust is done on the body. Then the body is epoxy primed. Then underneath and the insides of the body

Be very carefull when sand blasting as Incorrect prceedure or type of sand or glass on big panel areas such as doors and roofs can cause a lot of damage as it can have a shot peening effect on the panel and can stres the metal causing it to buckle or twis

Wow sounds like he's had a bit of experience. I've got quite a few street machine mags, did you know any off the top of your head that he's done?

Shooting for top 10 at Summernats, awesome! I'm guessing you have a HK monaro.

Hi guys
There was a blasting process described in a fairly recent issue of Street Machine which I think used bicarb as the abrasive. It was claimed to be non-damaging and the residue could be washed away. Might be worth a look.
Can't recall which issue o
