A mate of mine has this 350 Chev with a engine number which i think is a bit odd. Number is 350M40792 but following that number is in smaller letters K.11.08.8L. I have not seen this before. Block Number is 3970010 Inlet Manifold 340234 Heads are 332882. It is fitted with the correct HT HG Alloy Tappet Covers. Any Ideas?

Engine number is way too low for a genuine Monaro engine, recheck engine number as 010 block would be late HG and enigne number is early HK.
The small letters are the Chev assembly plant and date code, Canada, 11th August. 8L has me beat.

332882 are 1970-1980 350 or 400 heads with 1.94/1.5" valves and 75.5cc chambers. Will have steam holes drilled for 400 heads. Prone to cracking in post 1972 applications due to flame hardened seats. Low compression, smog heads.

The Numbers supplied are correct. It is possible that this engine could have been used in a marine application.

40792 means that this would be the 472nd Chev engine used in a Holden From the melbourne plant. I think they made more then 472 Chev powered HK/HT and early HGs from Melbourne, considering Sydney used mre than 1000 in the first 6 months of HK production.

could it be a locally assembled chev /pontiac motor ? used in belair/impala

The Belair etc engines were numbered sequencially with HK engines, plus they used 327 1st type engines. The last oine known to be made was in 1971 with a 327 engine and the engine number was something like 32748***.
