WHY DO BORE AND STROKE SIZES MEASURE AS EG 253 BORE 3.627INS THAT TO ME IS 3.5/8 WHATS THE .627 METRIC ? PS I THINK THATS STANDARD BORE CHEERS

Bore of 3.627" is 92.1258 mm. Multiply the size in inches by 25.4 to get mm.
3.625" would be 3 and 5/8 inches.

Why? So they can be more precise. The 627 is 'thousanths of an inch' (627thou). Imagine having to work out 630thou as a fraction! Bugga that!!

3.625" is the probably the nominal size and the 2 thou is clearance.
