Greetings. I'm currently undertaking a gentle rebuild on an HQ Kingswood. Just a quick question before i whip out the measuring tape for myself. Wondering what size rubber you can fit under the rear of an HQ Kingswood without resorting to narowed diffs or tubs/mini tubs? Ride height is stock and will remain so, i like the old school flavour of jacked rear, dropped front. The car runs 14inch Drag Lite look-alikes from back in the day. Currently shod with 215/65's. I think the rim is 7 or 8inches? The tyres are a long way from bagging off the rim. Offset appears stock as i think the track is standard. Right now i'm not worried about rta regulations regarding width of original tyre and percentage increase allowed. I'd just like to know how far i can take if if i choose. Cheers in advance. |

Have fitted 245/60/14's to the rear of a HZsedan-standard ride height and 7 inch rims no probs. A friend had a sedan with 265 tyres but stick out a bit from the guard,maybe due to offset of rim.

About the biggest sensible 14" combo under a HQ without removing the wheel arch lips is 8" with 265/50/14 tyres. You may be able to fit something taller like 15" with 275/60/15 but watch the wheel arches.

If you go too big you will attract the boys in blue ,if it sticks out the lip of your guard its grounds for a canary on your window, I used to run 8" on the rear and 6" on the front. rears had 245 and sat almost level with the lip, if you do not have pwr

I understand its difficult to get 14" tyres in wider sizes now. What is still available?

I used to drive around in a HJ 6cyl 5spd Belmont sedan for a while. Someone had spent big $ on it, and I bought it for a song as an everday driver. It ran 14x6 front and 14x8 rear Chevoit US racer's. Front tyres were 215/60/14 and rear were 225/60/14 and |

I'll be sticking with 215's on the front. It was fitted with lowered springs and new shocks by the previous owner. I will not be taking it any further (drop spindles etc). Weight transfer is not an issue, hpefully, as the

I had many hqs,i always ran 265/50/14 on an 8 inch rim.Had to lip guards but was lowered in rear.You may not have to lip guard if u are leaving the back standard.

Mate im running 16x8 rims. front and rear, hq-wb stud pattern on my hz ute. with 235/50's on all. the rear is lowered by 2" and the front by 1-1/2". i dont have huge issues with scraping. but do have some if i turn tight on a drain or somthing. but |
