Hi all,

Not only is the welsh plugs leaking so is the timing cover, thermostat housing, top and bottom radiator hoses at the engine end and of course the welch plugs, gawd I've never seen a car that seems to keep a full radiator (but empty overflow bottle) but has so many leaks of green fluid everywhere!!I guess I'll have to address them all one by one. Did an oil and filter change today to penrite 30W-60 as the motor has a few miles on it, so we'll see how that runs in the old red 308. Anyway not really asking for anything so far, just making comment on what I'm finding on the 'new' car. However one question, the overflow bottle has a 'owner added' piece of hose punched through the green lid and draining onto the inner guard behind the aircon receiver/dryer, does this setup sound like what it's meant to be, I can't see why it wouldn't just have the normal green cap without any pipework sticking through it, any thoughts??

Cheers

Peter

dude dont think the HZs came out with an overflow bottle . I do run one myself but its just a 1.25 soft drink bottle with no lid and the overflow through a small hole near the top its a good idea . with your radiator hoses I put a small smear of grease on

Thanks, I'll give that a go when I put them back on. As for the overflow bottle it looks to a factory fit, it mounts behind the battery on the passenger side inner guard.

Hi Peter,

The later HZs had the factory fitted overflow bottle as you've described. Also the overflow pipe coming out of the lid is a standard fitment too! I think they were fitted halfway through the HZ series, about the same time that they changed to

Just a quick comment - if it leaking in lots of places it may not actually be a leak problem, but an over-pressurising problem. Possibly caused by a faulty radiator cap, or a blown head gasket. I might be wrong, but just thinking.

Yes good point, I really hope it's the cap and not a head gasket! However it isn't using much water and it runs well, ie doesn't miss (no excessive steam out the exhaust either), so I really hope it's either just leaks or the cap!! Thanks for the commen
