Hi Everyone Well my vr has been acting funny lately the other day at the lights peek hour traffic, my commodore started to get quite warm and the thermo fans did not kick in at all got up to about 3 quarters when I got moving again it was pinging pretty bad under load. I decided to keep driving to see if it would cool it down got on the highway and it did cool down pretty fast, still pinged a little though, anyway when I got home I could hear that the fans had finally clicked on but my temp gauge was only on the first notch. They never usually come on when it was on that reading anyway I turned it off and re started the car the thermo fans turned off but the engine fault light came on and stayed on for about 5 seconds, does anyone know what could of caused this to happen, I drove it to to work the next day ran great then on the way home the fans came on agian when it was cold and wouldnt turn off till I restarted the car then I got the fault light again

I had a similar problem with my old mans vn a few years ago, turned out to be a faulty thermo fan sensor switch, $15.00 from holden . fixed the problem (not before blowing a head gasket on a 40 degree day).
